Jacobean Revival Vanity
Originally crafted as an oak dining room sideboard during the early 20th century, this beautiful piece dates to circa. 1920–1930's and has now been carefully restored and reimagined as a traditional double bathroom vanity. Once a focal point of the dining room, it has been given an entirely new purpose while retaining the character and craftsmanship of its original design.
Inspired by the Jacobean Revival style, which draws upon the substantial and decorative English furniture of the 17th century, this sideboard reflects the traditional country-house aesthetic that enjoyed renewed popularity during the early 1900s. Its richly figured oak, beautifully turned front legs and gently scalloped lower apron give the piece a distinctive presence, while the fine vertical reeded detailing beneath the top adds a further touch of period character.
The original pendant drawer handles, suspended from decorative diamond-shaped backplates, have been carefully retained alongside the coordinating cupboard fittings. These charming details complement the expressive oak grain and preserve an important part of the furniture's original identity.
Our in-house carpenters have skilfully re-engineered both upper drawers to accommodate the plumbing while retaining useful compartments for everyday bathroom essentials. Beneath them, two generously proportioned cupboards with internal shelving provide ample additional storage, making this an attractive and practical choice for a shared or family bathroom.
The entire piece was meticulously stripped by hand back to its natural timber, preserving the character and patina developed over the decades. Following the necessary restoration work, it was stained in Golden Oak to enhance the beautiful grain before being professionally spray-finished with a clear satin lacquer, helping to protect the timber against moisture, steam and the everyday demands of a bathroom environment.
Completing the transformation is the custom-cut, drilled and polished Caspian stone worktop. Its pale, marble-inspired surface features delicate veining that contrasts beautifully with the warmth of the oak. The stone is finished with an elegant Ogee edging profile, combining a defined upper step with a softly rounded lower edge for a more traditional, decorative finish.
Two spacious oval RAK Ceramics undermounted basins sit beautifully within the stone, accompanied by traditional three-hole antique brass tap sets with elegant curved spouts and classic crosshead handles. Matching antique brass pop-up wastes complete the arrangement, bringing warmth and a sense of period authenticity to the overall design.
With its generous proportions, beautiful oak figuring, original decorative hardware and practical double-basin arrangement, this vanity offers a wonderful balance of heritage craftsmanship and modern functionality. Rather than replacing the character of the original furniture, its transformation celebrates it, allowing a piece with almost a century of history to become a distinctive feature of the modern bathroom.
Timeless by design. Made to outlive trends.
