English Manor Vanity
Originally crafted in the 1920s as a traditional oak sideboard, this beautiful piece has been carefully restored and reimagined as a double bathroom vanity. Inspired by the grandeur of English country houses, its Jacobean Revival design draws upon the craftsmanship and decorative traditions of 17th-century English furniture.
Rich in character, the sideboard features substantial oak framing, beautifully turned barley-twist front legs and a traditional stretcher base. The two cupboard doors are particularly distinctive, with their decorative geometric carvings and raised diamond motifs. Original metal drop handles, intricate mouldings and the wonderfully expressive oak grain give the piece an unmistakable sense of history.
Our restoration began by completely stripping the furniture back to its natural timber, preserving the character developed over the past century. The oak was then stained in a warm Medium Oak finish and professionally sealed with a clear satin lacquer, providing lasting protection against the moisture and humidity of a bathroom. The original hardware has also been carefully cleaned and polished, allowing its period charm to remain part of the finished design.
The transformation is completed with a premium Caspian stone worktop, custom-cut, drilled and polished to fit the original sideboard. Its delicate natural-looking veining complements the warmth of the oak, while the traditional Half Bullnose edging and matching straight upstand create an elegant, timeless finish.
Two oval RAK Ceramics undermounted basins sit beautifully within the stone, accompanied by traditional three-hole antique brass taps with lever handles and matching wastes. The warm brass finish brings a refined contrast to the pale stone and beautifully complements the restored timber.
To accommodate the basins and plumbing, the two upper drawer fronts have been retained as fixed façades, preserving the sideboard's original appearance. Beneath them, two generous cupboards, each with internal shelving, provide practical storage for everyday bathroom essentials.
The result is a distinctive double vanity that brings together nearly a century of furniture history with the comfort and practicality of modern bathroom design. A genuine piece of English furniture, thoughtfully restored for an entirely new purpose, with all the warmth, individuality and character that only time can create.
