Traditional Bathroom Vanity Unit

Once a working antique oak bureau, this piece has been carefully reimagined as a traditional under-mounted vanity, its history intact, its purpose renewed.

The oak itself speaks first. Mature and time-worn, its surface carries an openness of grain and gentle variation that only age can produce. These markings are not flaws to be corrected, but quiet traces of use, suggestions of long evenings, shared spaces and craftsmanship shaped by hand rather than haste.

Restoration was approached with sensitivity. Nothing here has been overworked or disguised. The timber has been strengthened and refreshed, yet allowed to remain honest. Its depth and texture tell a story of continuity rather than imitation, heritage preserved not as a replica, but as something still living.

Set above the original oak, an Avalanche stone worktop which is reminiscent of the iconic statuario marble, introduces lightness and definition. Pale and refined, its soft veining moves naturally across the surface, finished with a traditional lambs tongue edging profile. Below, a clean-lined rectangular under-mounted basin sits in quiet proportion, grounding the piece with calm balance. The vanity has been purpose-built with wall-mounted taps in mind, its slimline rear edge offering a considered solution for this refined layout.

Inside, the drawers have been carefully re-engineered to accommodate modern plumbing without compromising the original structure. Storage is generous and practical, concealed within a form that remains true to its past. New antique brass and bronze shell cup handles have been introduced, adding a subtle contrast that bridges old character with contemporary function.

For flexibility, the design does allow for an offset basin configuration, left or right facing, get in touch with us if you would like to add a tap.

The exterior is finished in a rich Jacobean stain, sealed with a clear satin lacquer to protect without obscuring. Natural tonal shifts, open grain, and age-earned details remain visible, embraced as part of the piece’s identity.

This is not a vanity designed to blend quietly into its surroundings. It belongs in spaces that value depth over decoration, authenticity over uniformity and furniture chosen for meaning rather than trend.

A restored antique with many stories already written, now ready to continue it in your home.
