Antique Oak Bureau Vanity Unit
Some pieces carry an immediate sense of familiarity, the kind of furniture that feels as though it has always belonged in a home. This beautifully restored antique bureau is one of those pieces.
Originally crafted as a practical writing bureau, this piece would once have been a quiet part of daily life, a place where letters were written, documents stored, and everyday moments unfolded. Today, through careful restoration and thoughtful craftsmanship, it has been given a new purpose as a distinctive bathroom vanity, ready to serve another generation.
What makes this piece so charming is its balance of simplicity and detail. Its proportions are compact yet confident, making it especially well suited to bathrooms where space matters but character is non-negotiable. The clean lines of the two-drawer façade are softened by elegant turned front legs and the open lower stretcher frame, giving the piece a lighter, more refined presence than a traditional chest.
The oak has been fully restored by our in-house artisans and craftsmen, with every stage approached carefully to preserve the integrity of the original furniture. Stripped back to reveal the natural beauty of the grain, the timber showcases warm movement, subtle figuring and the organic texture that only genuine age can provide. A medium oak stain enhances this character beautifully, adding warmth and depth while remaining sympathetic to the piece’s heritage.
The antique brass cup handles provide a striking finishing touch. Their understated industrial styling contrasts beautifully with the warmth of the oak, adding both practicality and visual weight to the drawer fronts.
While the exterior remains faithful to the original bureau, the internals have been expertly re-engineered by our in-house carpentry team to accommodate modern plumbing without sacrificing functionality. Both drawers have been carefully modified to remain usable, ensuring this piece delivers practical everyday storage as well as visual appeal.
Above, the Misterio stone worktop introduces a clean contemporary contrast. The pale surface brightens the overall composition, allowing the warmth of the timber and brass fittings to take centre stage. Finished with chamfered edge profile, the stone adds a crisp, tailored detail that feels both elegant and understated.
At the centre sits a sculptural oval countertop basin, its soft flowing form creating a beautiful contrast against the straight architectural lines of the vanity beneath. Paired with a tall traditional-style antique brass tap and matching pop-up waste, the combination feels timeless, classic materials brought together in perfect harmony.
Practicality has been considered just as carefully as aesthetics. Once restoration was complete, the entire timber body was sealed with a durable clear satin lacquer, providing protection against moisture, vapour and the demands of daily bathroom use while allowing the natural beauty of the oak to remain fully visible.
There is something particularly special about pieces like this. They do not rely on ornament or excess to make an impression. Their appeal lies in honesty, honest materials, honest craftsmanship and a story shaped over decades.
Beautifully restored and rich in character, this is the kind of piece that becomes part of a home rather than simply furnishing it.
