Edwardian Revival Oak Bureau Vanity Unit

There’s a certain charm in pieces that have lived more than one life and this one carries it effortlessly.

Originally an Edwardian revival bureau, this antique oak piece has been carefully restored and reimagined as a bathroom vanity, while retaining the poise and practicality that defined its original purpose. Its proportions are compact yet confident, making it particularly well suited to more considered spaces where character matters.

The oak has been handled with a light but knowledgeable approach. The original finish was carefully removed without disturbing the natural patina beneath, allowing the timber to retain its depth and authenticity. A medium oak stain has then been applied to enrich the tone, drawing out the grain while keeping the overall look warm and grounded. The result is a surface that feels settled rather than newly finished, full of variation, texture and quiet detail.

Its form remains true to the bureau it once was. Clean lines, balanced proportions and gently turned legs give it a sense of refinement, while the retained original iron handles introduce a subtle contrast in both texture and tone. These details anchor the piece in its history, offering a more understated alternative to brighter fittings.

Function has been thoughtfully introduced without disrupting the exterior. Both drawers have been internally adapted by our carpentry team, providing practical storage while maintaining their original appearance from the outside. It’s a solution that respects the design while making it genuinely usable day to day.

Above, the Misterio stone worktop adds a crisp, tailored finish. Predominantly white with a soft, broken pattern running through it, the surface brings lightness without feeling stark. The Cove DuPont edge profile introduces a gentle curve, while the tall upstand, finished with a half bullnose edge, adds height and structure, echoing the traditional styling of the base.

A rectangular under-mounted basin sits neatly within the stone, keeping the surface clean and uninterrupted. Paired with a traditional three-hole tap in antique brass, the overall look feels cohesive and quietly refined, with each material complementing the next.

Practicality extends beyond layout. The piece has been sealed in a clear satin lacquer, providing a durable layer of protection against moisture, vapour and everyday use within a bathroom environment. This ensures the timber remains stable and protected, while still allowing the natural character of the oak to remain fully visible.

With over a century behind it, this is a piece that doesn’t rely on statement alone, its appeal is in its balance. Understated, functional and full of character.

A thoughtful choice for spaces where subtlety speaks louder than scale.
