Jacobean Revival Oak Double Vanity Unit
There’s a sense of structure to this piece that immediately sets it apart, not just in scale, but in the way every detail feels deliberate, almost architectural.
Originally a Jacobean revival sideboard, this antique English oak piece has been brought forward with care, retaining its strong geometric character while being reworked into a fully functional double vanity. The transformation hasn’t softened it, if anything, it’s allowed those original features to stand even more prominently.
The façade is what draws you in first. Deeply carved panels, repeating shapes and layered mouldings create a rhythm across the front, giving the piece a level of detail that feels both decorative and disciplined. The oak itself is richly figured, with a tight, expressive grain that catches the light differently across each section, emphasising the craftsmanship in its construction.
Then there’s the upstand, a standout feature in its own right. Restored to sit seamlessly with the base, it brings height and presence, almost framing the basins beneath it. It’s not just an addition; it completes the piece, turning it into something far more than a standard vanity.
The layout is generous and practical without interrupting that symmetry. Two large cupboards sit at either end, balanced by a pair of central drawers that have been internally reworked by our in-house team for modern usability. From the outside, everything remains consistent with the original design, the function has evolved, but the appearance holds firm.
The Misterio stone worktop introduces a clean, uninterrupted surface across the top. Its soft veining adds just enough movement without competing with the detail below. The half bullnose edge rounds the profile slightly, easing the transition between the crisp stone and the more intricate timber.
Set into the surface, the rectangular under-mounted basins keep the lines sharp and controlled, reinforcing the structured feel of the piece. Paired with traditional crosshead Hudson Reed three-hole taps in brushed brass, the look is cohesive without feeling overly styled. The taps sit comfortably alongside the restored original brass hardware, their tones aligning naturally with the warmth of the aged oak.
What’s particularly striking is how everything holds its own, the carving, the timber, the stone, the brass, yet none of it feels in competition. It’s balanced, but not minimal; detailed, but not overwhelming.
The piece has also been prepared with its new environment in mind. The timber has been carefully sealed in a durable, moisture-resistant satin lacquer, forming a protective barrier against humidity and daily use.
With well over a century behind it, this is a piece that carries weight in more ways than one. Not just in its construction, but in its presence.
A vanity that doesn’t blend in, it defines the space around it.
